It was battle of Thunder last night as the JEC Thunder began the 2017-18 JV season with their home opener against the YDE Thunder in the RTMA Thunder dome and while two teams entered, it would be the JEC Thunder that walked out with the win.

A tightly contested first period saw both teams feeling each other out until the remaining seconds of the period when sophomore forward Dovid Rozehzadeh scored his first goal of the evening from the right wing on a near side wrist shot with 3.3 second left in the period to give the JEC thunder the late 1-0 lead.

As the second period began the JEC wasted very little time building upon their lead as Rozehzadeh once again scored from the high slot after a beautiful pass from the corner by Sophomore Netanel Schmutter to stake the JEC to a 2-0 lead which they wouldn’t relinquish for the rest of the evening. The remainder of the period saw YDE fail to convert on 2 Power plays while the JEC thunder built upon their lead with goals by Freshman Shmaryahu Butler and Dovid Rozehzadah scoring once again to complete the Hat Trick.

As the third period began the only question that remained was could Sophomore net minder Dov Weitz  close out the game with a home opening shutout or would YDE ruin his perfect game. The answer came late in the third when YDE managed get on the scoreboard with a power play goal on a shot from the right point. However, by that point it  was too little too late as Dovid Rozehzadah managed to score his fourth goal on the evening and along with offensive contributions from Freshman Josh Krause and Sophomores Aaron Silver and Ben-zion Kapustin the JEC Thunder managed to close the game out with an 8-1 win.
